Line Rider iRide for iPhone & iPod Touch Review

Posted by: john In: games| web

Line Rider iRide for the iPhone and iPod Touch released today and if you’re at all familiar with the way the web based flash game played, you will instantly feel right at home with this version. This new version has all of the great features of the web based version, plus a few more that I did not expect, but love.

Quick Overview of the Tools

The tracking editing screen works almost just like the web based version.

The pen tool is the standard track marker that follows exactly where your finger goes. The blue box below the pen tool (and the next two tools as well) is the standard track that guides the guy and sled using normal gravity. The red is an accelerated and the green is just for scenery. The new magnet tool prevents the tracks pieces from being linked. So if you’re making a loop or a jump where you need a gap, just click on the magnet and it will stop the track pieces from being linked.

The straight line tool allows you to…well…draw a straight line. Again the track peices are linked unless to click on the magnet.

The eraser tool allows you to only erase a certain type (color) track. Just click on the tool and choose the color track you want to delete then click on the track piece to delete it.

The other tools work just like they did in the web based version and even if you did not play it, the tools are really self explanatory and the app has a great help section as well.

Now comes the coolest part of the app.

The next section is found in the setting section (disk icon then share) and allows you to basically upload your saved track to the LineRider website. But not only that it allows you to download tracks that have already been made. And these tracks are not new ones that are just from this iPhone/iPod app, they are from everyone.

Upload: Allows you to upload your saved tracks to be downloaded and rated by other people in the community.

My Tracks would show all the tracks that I’ve uploaded and will show what other people have rated it.

Most Recent and Top Rated both allow you to view a list of tracks to download, rate, or flag. When you lick on “download”, it downloads the track to your screen where you can play it or edit it. It does not download the track file to you iPhone/iPod, but you can choose to save. I didn’t at first like the way this worked, but after playing with it for a while, I apreciate it not saving it to my device unless I want it to.

Conclusion

All in all, I love this app and think it is well worth the $2.99 price tag. Adding the ability to share tracks online alone is well worth checking it out.
